SID 2025: SafeLine Raising Awareness Across Greece
The Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 celebration in Greece was a nationwide initiative led by the Greek Safer Internet Center of FORTH. SafeLine, took an active part in the celebrations. Marking the 22nd consecutive year of SID, the event engaged students, educators, parents, and stakeholders across the country and Greek communities abroad.
The central event took place at the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports in Athens, with over 700 students and teachers from 30 schools participating. The Deputy Minister of Education, Zeta Makri, stressed the importance of collaboration in ensuring digital safety. Beloved actresses, Vaso Laskaraki, Vassia Golfiopoulou and former MEP Maria Spiraki joined discussions, providing valuable insights on responsible internet use.
A significant part of the awareness campaign included discussions on online dangers, particularly grooming and the fight against child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Experts from the National Cybersecurity Authority educated students on online safety and cybersecurity career prospects. Alongside, hundreds of schools organized their own SID activities, ensuring that the message of safe internet use reached students nationwide and even Greek schools abroad, with over 20,000 students participating in online seminars.
The Greek Safer Internet Center also introduced new educational materials, including resources on group chat management, critical thinking in online information assessment, and age verification. The material also includes two comprehensive guides for stakeholders, with an emphasis on the importance of digital literacy and legislation protecting against child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
