Mick Moran Appointed CEO of Hotline.ie
Hotline.ie, Ireland’s foremost service dedicated to combatting illegal online content, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), intimate image abuse, and other forms of online exploitation—has today announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer.
Moran’s appointment comes at a critical juncture as the organisation prepares to release its 2023 Annual Report, highlighting significant strides in online safety and child protection. Operated by the Internet Service Providers Association of Ireland (ISPAI), Hotline.ie provides a secure, anonymous platform for the public to report illegal content online.
Mick Moran, a seasoned expert with extensive experience in the fight against online child exploitation, takes on the CEO role after a distinguished career in law enforcement, where he specialised in investigating crimes against children in both national and international contexts. This including his time seconded to INTERPOL as Assistant Director for the Vulnerable Communities sub-directorate and where he built and managed teams dealing with crimes against children and human trafficking. Moran has worked as the Garda Liaison Officer to the Irish Embassy in Paris and Garda HQ in the Phoenix Park, Dublin and lectures in University College Dublin - providing knowledge on cybercrime, forensic computing and child exploitation. His leadership at Hotline.ie is expected to bring new insights and strengthen the organisation’s mission to protect vulnerable individuals from online harm.
Expressing his commitment to the role, Moran stated: "Internet safety has been at the core of my work with An Garda Síochána and Internationally for over 20 years and hotlines are key to that. I welcome this opportunity to lead a well established hotline and look forward to working with the passionate and committed team and board to deliver the objectives we set together."
Hotline.ie, a critical part of Ireland’s online safety framework, operates with European Commission support and collaborates with industry stakeholders to create a safer online environment. It is committed to protecting children and vulnerable groups from online exploitation.
