Cambodia's Commitment to a Safer Digital WorldÂ
Safer Internet Day is a global initiative that Cambodia proudly participates in to promote a safer and more responsible digital environment for children and young people. This year, the event was organised on February 11th, by APLE in collaboration with the National Committee for Counter Trafficking, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders.
The campaign highlighted the urgent need to address online child sexual exploitation, with alarming statistics revealing that 300 million children experienced online sexual exploitation last year. In response, SID emphasized the importance of collective action, urging individuals to take a stand against digital threats.
This year, SID attracted an impressive 1,735 participants, including students, educators, government officials, tech industry representatives, and social media influencers. The event successfully raised awareness and sparked pivotal discussions on the importance of online safety. Notable youth leaders like Cheryl Perrera played a crucial role in motivating young people to join the fight against online exploitation.
As we celebrate the successes of Safer Internet Day in Cambodia, it is evident that through awareness, education, and collaboration, we can create a safer digital landscape for everyone.
