A word from our Partner Yubo

Yubo is a live social discovery app that makes it easy for Gen Z to make new friends and hang out online. By eliminating likes and follows, we empower young people to show up as their true selves and form genuine connections. As a platform serving teens and young adults, safety is a cornerstone of Yubo.

All of our features and policies are developed with guidance from our board of safety experts, which is made up of respected leaders and online safety experts from such organisations as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Thorn, and The Diana Award. Founded in France in 2015, Yubo today is used across more than 140 countries and has had more than 80 million new user sign-ups since launching.

Why did you decide to join INHOPE?

Yubo is committed to continually growing and developing our online community with a safety-by-design approach at its foundation. Partnerships with leading organizations combating complex and challenging harm areas of online safety innovation, such as INHOPE Network, are crucial to that foundation. By collaborating with INHOPE, we can proactively contribute to risk mitigation and problem-solving and learn from the perspectives and experiences of other stakeholders. By aligning with INHOPE, we hope to foster a digital landscape where creativity, connection, and security go hand in hand, enriching the online experiences of current and future generations.

What are some projects you'd like to highlight?

We are always working to reiterate, evolve and refine the safety infrastructure of Yubo by developing proprietary algorithms and tools, partnering with cutting-edge solutions providers, and lending our support to the experts behind impactful NGOs around the world. Currently, we are dedicating much of our resources to further enhancing real-time content moderation technology that helps Yubo enforce our Community Guidelines and ensure a positive experience for our users around the world. Recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and large language models have made our ability to preemptively or quickly block harmful content more precise, and more scalable, as we serve users across more than 100 countries and dozens of different languages.

What are some of your organisation’s greatest achievements to date?

Yubo is proud to be the first major social platform in the world to enforce age-estimation protocols 100 percent across its platform. The measure. implemented in 2022 was designed to improve the Yubo user experience by preventing the spread of spam and bots, and further mitigate risks of child abuse by preventing users who might misrepresent their age for ill intent from joining the platform.

What are your long-term goals for the future?

Our long-term goal is to leverage our safety-by-design approach to make Yubo as welcoming as possible to as many people around the world as we can in order to help more people, especially teens and young adults, feel more connected and engaged. Our users say Yubo is a place where they feel they can truly be themselves and make genuine friendships, which is a proud achievement in and of itself. We estimate we have helped form more than 2 billion friendships to date.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

The expertise of INHOPE has been invaluable to our team, and we feel fortunate to be able to proactively contribute to efforts to combat the spread of CSAM.
