About

In this session, Hannah Rose will take attendees through the findings of ISD's report Beyond Extremism: Platform Responses to Online Subcultures of Nihilistic Violence.

Online communities centred around nihilistic violence are becoming increasingly visible across digital platforms. These decentralised and highly adaptive networks challenge traditional approaches to moderation, prevention, and policy, which have historically focused on organised extremist groups. These subcultures operate across multiple platforms and are associated with a wide range of harms, spanning sexual exploitation, cybercrime, and real-world violence, with children frequently among the most vulnerable.

The presentation will unpack how these communities form, how they operate, and what platforms, hotlines, and practitioners can do to better detect, respond, and build resilience against this evolving threat.

This webinar is designed for INHOPE member hotlines, partners, policymakers, law enforcement, government agencies, NGOs, trust and safety professionals, and others working in child protection.
