Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026 in Greece was a nationwide initiative led by the Greek Safer Internet Center of FORTH, with SafeLine actively contributing to the awareness efforts and public engagement activities across the country.
The central celebration took place in Athens, bringing together 1,000 secondary education students and their teachers. Students were at the heart of the event, highlighting the crucial role of the younger generation in shaping a safer and more responsible digital environment.
The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, stressed that as children’s daily lives increasingly unfold online, digital safety is fundamental to social cohesion and child protection. Actress and Safer Internet Ambassador Vaso Laskaraki engaged in an open discussion with students, emphasizing self-protection, critical thinking, and the importance of seeking support when facing online risks.
A significant part of the awareness campaign included discussions on online dangers, particularly grooming and the fight against child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Experts also addressed algorithmic influence, misinformation, data protection, and responsible digital behavior.
A parallel high-impact event was hosted at the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) in Heraklion, Crete, connecting research with education through interactive workshops on AI and digital literacy.
In parallel with the central events, the Greek Safer Internet Center organized nationwide online seminars for students of all educational levels, reaching more than 30,000 participants across Greece and Greek communities abroad.
