New strategic initiative brings together hotline intelligence and platform safety engineering to proactively protect young players online and further improve response to emerging risks in online gaming.
Through this partnership, Roblox will work with the INHOPE network to gain insight into emerging threats, regional trends, and language-specific risks identified by hotline analysts, helping to inform and further strengthen its safety systems. In turn, Roblox will share insights into its safety tools, policies and approaches, creating a two-way exchange of expertise between the platform and the organisations identifying harms on the ground.
By bringing together the reporting expertise of INHOPE's hotlines and Roblox's safety systems, the partnership aims to support faster and more effective responses to illegal content across different European jurisdictions.
“I am pleased to share INHOPE’s new partnership with Roblox, a giant among the platforms that entertain our children today. With this partnership comes a commitment from our colleagues in Roblox’s dedicated child safety teams to be among the best in gaming safety. INHOPE's hotlines and analysts are an essential link in content being reported and content being removed. We are experts in identifying the risks and glad Roblox has chosen to work within that system to prioritise the safety of its users. As risks continue to evolve on all platforms, collaboration between industry and organisations working on the front line of online safety is essential.” – Samantha Woolfe, Executive Director, INHOPE.
“Roblox is delighted to partner with the INHOPE network of internet hotlines, who operate on the front line of online safety and provide a vital source of intelligence on emerging harms around the world.
“This partnership will not only inform our internal practices at Roblox, but will also allow us to share insights into our own tools and policies to help keep our community safe. Collaborations like these are vital to our mission of creating safe, civil and age-appropriate experiences for all of our players - and we are eager to unite our efforts to accelerate this critical work.” – Laura Higgins, Senior Director of Community Safety & Civility, Roblox .
This initial collaboration will also provide an opportunity to learn from the experience of European hotlines and develop the partnership further, with the potential for broader cooperation in the future.
Online safety is not a one-time achievement. As gaming environments and the tactics used by perpetrators evolve, INHOPE and its network will continue to monitor emerging risks, share intelligence, and work with platforms to improve the systems designed to protect children.
