NetSafe is an independent non-profit organisation founded in 1998 to promote confident, safe, and responsible use of online technologies. NetSafe is a multi-stakeholder partnership which represents a range of perspectives from New Zealand’s cybersafety community.
In 2011, NetSafe developed the orb as an online reporting mechanism to offer all New Zealanders a simple and secure way to report their concerns about online incidents.
NetSafe works with partner agencies to direct public reports through to the organisation best able to investigate or advise the public on various types of online incidents.
Netsafe partners currently include: NZ Police, the Department of Internal Affairs, the Privacy Commissioner, Consumer Affairs, the Commerce Commission, the National Cyber Security Centre.
