Trend Analysis Update (based on standard INHOPE statistical data)
The first Global Trend Analysis on illegal content on the Internet was published by INHOPE in September 2007. This received widespread media coverage and gave INHOPE the opportunity to increase its profile. Details of this were delivered in previous reports.
Since the original Global Trend Analysis was developed INHOPE has continued to gather statistics from its Member Hotlines. INHOPE plans to develop another trend analysis in the future once a body of statistics has been collected over a period of time. In the meantime INHOPE has developed interim statistics covering the period from September 2005 to June 2010.
The number of hotlines contributing monthly statistics, counting 37 on June 2010, continues to grow, at the average pace of two new Hotlines every 9 months. The number of reports received externally by INHOPE Hotlines is on a statistically significant increasing trend, at an average rate of +405 reports / month. This number, cleared from seasonal & random components stood at 60,200 reports per month at the end of the Sep-2005 to June 2010 period.
Statistics for the period September 2005 – June 2010 show:
- INHOPE Hotlines recieved & processed an average of 60,200 unique reports per month
- 51% of all processed reports referred to illegal content
- 66% of these contained child sexual abuse material
- 13% of these contained other child-related content
- 18% of these contained adult pornography
